Rats

Have you ever wondered what it's like to get up close and personal with a RAT? If you either love them or hate them, you have the chance to learn about our furry rodent friends. Keeping rats as pets has become enormously popular in the last few years. Should you wish to learn more about rats or discover them for the very first time we have plenty of advice on hand to help you gain an insight into these widely misunderstood creatures.

Rats are extremely intelligent animals and they will surprise and amaze you as you have the opportunity to handle, fuss, play and look after them. Our resident experts are on hand to offer practical advice on caring for rats and should you be thinking of buying one you have the chance to fill out our "should I get a pet rat" questionnaire that will offer some useful guidance.

Naturally, you can bring your own rodent to the event and our resident Rat Club will be running a ‘Fun Rat Show’ and members of the public will have the chance to enter as many of the classes as they wish. A show schedule detailing all of the classes will be available to download from here closer to the time.

Ferrets

Ferrets come in all colours and make fantastic pets; However, they are lively and extremely playful. When excited they ‘dance’ sideways, twisting and jumping, their mouths open and making soft hissing sounds or ‘chuckling’. Some even turn somersaults as they throw themselves around. Ferrets love to chase your feet, or jump at a piece of cloth dangled above them. Some also enjoy chasing objects that roll, such as balls or bottle tops, while others like to ambush each other (or you) from behind furniture.

Come and enjoy our ferret assault course, watch these intelligent inquisitive animals as they work tirelessly occupying themselves as they tackle the intriguing array of obstacles to reward themselves with a treat.

If you already have a pet ferret then this will offer you the fantastic opportunity to be around like minded people and our experts will be on hand to answer even the most complex of ‘Ferret’ questions. This area is not only for the enthusiast, if you are interested in owning a pet ferret or simply would like to discover more about these animals there will be something here for you.

Don't forget that in the arena ferret racing will be taking place, as both the young and old have the chance to cheer on their favourite ferret. This activity is great fun for the whole family and not forgetting the ferrets who have a fantastic time too.

You can bring your own furry friend and find water, food and shelter simply come along with your pet in a suitable carrying case and we will provide somewhere safe for them to stay while you enjoy your day.

As well as our "drop in clinic", a talk takes place twice a day at 12.00am and 2.00pm based on caring for rats and ferrets and is specifically focused on people who are thinking about getting a rat or a ferret for the very first time. If you haven’t got time for the talk them pick up our “I think I want a Rat Questionnaire” or “I think I want a Ferret Questionnaire” that will offer you some great help and advice and highlight the practical costs, time involved and the care and attention that your furry friend will need.

Question and Answer Sessions

Practical advice is available in caring for your pet. All of our zones have resident experts that can answer even the most complex questions. Simply drop into the clinic (opening times to be confirmed) and we can offer you help and advice on the best ways of caring for your pets. Whether it's feeding, health & wellbeing or simply how to best groom your rabbit, no question is too daft and if we don’t have the answer then our Vets Zone will be on hand to research the question. If you don’t want to wait until the show then email our experts beforehand and we will make sure your question is answered either before or at the show.
